How to Understand a Black Woman
By Cherry Scott-Jones

The black woman in America is a complex mixture of the entire human race. Understanding the black woman is to realize that she is both a timeless treasure and an untapped resource.
1. Step 1
See the Black Woman as a collage of the entire human race from Africa to Europe. She is literally a blended face of the human race. She may be highly intelligent, inherently street savvy or probably both. She is a proud person, regardless of her life status.
2. Step 2
To effectively relate to the Black Woman, observe her personality as she may be reserved, poised and controlled or outgoing with an edge. What may be considered as anger or aggression is her coping mechanisms to survive, prosper, and grow as an equal and viable part of the human race and personal associations.
3. Step 3
Realize that she has faced many life challenges, overcome adversities and suffers her personal pain and that of her race’s history of slavery. Very intelligent, she seeks life fulfillment, security, and achievement to maintain her own definition of success. She is resilient and strong. She overcomes or hides her fears.
4. Step 4
Respect her with a heart and eyes of compassion. Listen to her with an empathetic ear. She is a discerning individual. For effective interactions and associations, give to her undiscriminating respect, consideration, opportunities and inclusion.
5. Step 5
She is a woman with her own unique style, grace and rhythm. She lives to be true to her own essence. With a keen eye for fashion and style, how she presents herself and her possessions provide added insight into understanding her as an individual.
6. Step 6
With all that life has to offer, she seeks self fulfillment and enjoyment in family, creative endeavors, genuine relationships, travel, and self expression. Quite expressive, she will communicate who she is as a woman and individual.
7. Step 7
Know that she is a hard worker, confident and shrewd. Basically kind hearted, she is ultimately seeking to survive, prosper, love and be loved as an individual.
