I believe it is deep in your soul and is coming out now. Your poem was beautiful, it touched my heart. BEAUTIFUL!

Writer’s Block (A Poem )

Somewhere along the way I’ve lost my spark.

I long to tap into the creative energy that I know lies dormant deep within me

Something has squelched the fire

Something has lessened the desire

Something’s holding me back

Causing me not to act

Preventing me from doing that

Which frees me…

Brings me solace and relieves me

Lord please open up my soul

Make me whole

So I can write the greatest story ever told.

A Call for Essays...

The Three Minds of Black America:

Tresconsciousness and the Twenty-First Century

Are you a man, woman, teen or child of African descent who has been torn by society's expectations of race and class? Have you found yourself developing different personalities in the workplace, in the church, in the neighborhood, in the classroom, with your family and with your peers? Are you struggling to find your true self that is comfortable in all settings and situations?

Tresconsciousness, or triple consciousness, is the idea that Blacks in America are always torn between the ideals of three distinct communities: Eurocentric America, the Black upper middle class community and the greater Black community. As an African American develops their personal identity we are striking a balance between each of the three aspects of ourselves.

A new anthology, The Three Minds of Black America: Tresconsciousness and the Twenty-First Century is calling Africans, African-Americans, Blacks, West-Indians, Native Americans and others of African descent to share a personal essay within this collection.

Submissions are due June 15, 2009

Please forward widely.

My father died last November. He was 89 years old with the beginning stages of Alheizmer's. My father always spoke of his grandmother with such fondness and love that I wanted to know more. I began looking through his old photo albums and saw pictures of family my heart went out to especially after hearing the stories my dad would tell of the early 1900's. I loved my grandfather and wanted to know more about him. So I began taping the stories as my father would tell them. Many times his mind would replay some stories over and over again, but I didn't mind. Before my dad's brother died, I was able to get many birth and death information about relatives all the way back to slavery. I soon found out my uncle was a closet historian with tons of information. He was a retired army Sargeant with all kinds of material of our familly back to the Mexican American war and pictures also. Once my uncle found that I was interested, he left me all of his material in his will...and I mean there is a lot of documentation of the slave owners who were brothers. Anyway, I'm trying to get all this information together for my grandchildren.
My oldest daughter's father was an American Indian and I have his ancestry back to the Trail of the Tears.
It is difficult sometimes to keep my mind on track, but I am organized and determined to do this as my legacy to my children and grandchildren.
