Kisha, I would suggest you stay on Canal St. While the hotel near the Convention Center will put you close to the seminars, it will take you a bit out of the loop when it comes to other activities in the evening. Canal Street tends to be a bit more active and closer to an array of events that happen during the Festival. Just my opinion, but most of the people I know, including myself, have been going upwards of 8 years and we find that the Canal Street area works best for us.

This will be my first time attending the festival. A co-worker indicated to me that the festival has an official host hotel near the convention ctr. I planned on staying at the Marriott on Canal St. What location/hotel would you guys recommend?

My group stay at the Sheraton on Canal Street. I'm also a member of the Essence yahoo group and every year we have a meet-n-greet at the sheraton in the lobby.

Hey everyone....

I know that there's the "official" list of hotels on the festival website, but what hotels are the most popular amongst you all who've gone to Essence before? I am trying to figure out where I should stay. I don't want to stay in some drab of a place, but I don't want to break the bank for a place. This is my first time w/ an issue b/c my bestie's uncle no longer has his apartment in the N.O., which is where we always stayed for concerts and so on. I live in Gulfport, MS so I won't have to shell out anything other than gas money to get there, so I can splurge a LITTLE (lol) on the hotel. Thanks in advance for any tips and suggestions!

I attended the music festival for the first time last year and I had a blast. I arrived on July 4th and left on Monday morning July 7th. I only went to sleep one time while I was there. So that let's you know how good of a time I had. This has been added to my calendar as an annual event.

true it is really going to be a great party like u have not ever seen before. i am very proud of essence/new orleans, cause i have gone to most of them n its always very sweet to be around all those lovely people n just have fun. as far meeting i think it will be very nice if most of us can we will just have to get it together for everyones convience. its Gary birthday week end so he might like it to.

Hello playgreat! I plan on getting my room done this week. I am going to be staying on Poydras.Just a thought, but why don't we plan a meet and greet somewhere convienent to where everyone will be staying. Whether at a park or restaurant just so we can meet. It will just be one big party! lol

THANKS FOR THE REPLY EVERYBODY. THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR ATTENDING THE ESSENCE FEST. WE BOUTGH A 3 DAY PASS AND ARE SITTING IN SECTION I , I AM OVERLY EXCITED.

SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR I WAS NOT SURE WHICH HOTEL WE SHOULD STAY AT, SO WE DECIDED TO STAY AT THE CANAL STREET HOTEL FRECH QUARTER AT 1630 CANAL STREET, IS THIS A GOOD CHOICE??

I AM NOT SURE HOW HOW THE CITY IS LOOKING RIGHT NOW, BUT I HOPE TO DO SOME SHOPPING, IS THERE A MALL IN THE AREA?? WHERE CAN I GET FLY SHOES FROM??

WELL I AM A BUG BEYONCE FAN, SO OF COURSE I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HER PERFORM, ALONG WITH ALL OF THE OTHER ARTISTS AND SPEAKERS.
