Does anyone find it odd that a majority of hotels wanted their money pretty much up front when reservations were made. I really think since this is a predominately Afrrican-American event the hotels are displaying some "questionable" practices.
I booked my hotel through hotel.com back in january and those sites usually do require payment up front regardless what's going on. I think that with the economy the way it is, businesses are wanting guaranteed payment. I could cancel, but i would be charged $25.00. I know that during Essence the hotel prices are up tremendously. But i don't know. I'm sure there are a lot of opinions on this matter.
My hotel mentioned a deposit to be taken...however, I think they take the deposit when I check in. Also, they did give me a cancellation period. I'm booked at the Ritz.

My husband and I started going to the Essence Festival back when it first started and at that time you didn't have to pay up front. We would make our reservations and pay once we checked out. Over the years that policy has changed. Although we did find for 2009 a hotel where they asked for you to pay the first night up front and the rest was due once you checked in.
