I was in line by 6:55, left at 8:05am. I was so excited to see all of the hundreds of people in my community standing in line. I just couldn't believe it. I went on in and voted. Then, I raced out of the polls to go and create a video to let everyone know exactly how I felt as it was happening!! I am so ridiculously proud of my country and to all the tons of people who voted!!!!! Here's my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKI5p3eMlk4 .

I voted early in NC and for the first time in 10 years there was a line. We cheered first time voters, including those who voting for the first time in the US. I never thought I'd lived to see a Black man run for president in America, and I thrilled and scared at the same time -- scared Obama won't win and American will be doomed to 4 more years of Bushnomics. So I'm praying Brother Obama wins!! And I know I'm not the only one!!

Well, some how my voter's registration card was lost among the mail. It was very upsetting to find out, I almost lost the chance to vote in this election. But, I was able to do so by Provisional Ballot. This is a historical moment for a African American man to become the very first President of the United States, I wanted to be apart of this historical day. I salute and support Barack Obama and his vision for the American people. This is a time to praise "God," for this day in giving the people a chance for a better future. A change is needed for all people.

I sit in awe of what the Lord has allowed to manifest on today. As a Active Duty military Soldier of 24 years (who recently Retired three months ago), I was up at the polling location at 5:30 am. It was an inspiration to see the vast turnout of the African American voters. It was an emotional blessing to see the people of the older generation move to the front of the line to vote. Then it REALLY hit me that I was voting for many purposes. I was representing myself as a recently retired Soldier who for the first time was not away overseas serving my country and casting an absentee ballot. I was voting in person for the first time. I was voting for all my military comrades who had made the supreme sacrifice and would not get the opportunity to know of this historical election (of the first African American male for President or the first female for Vice President). Lastly and more emotionally, I was voting for my mother, grandmother and great grandmother who did not lived to see this day to have the "opportunity to experience" this history being made of the first African American male for President. If I wasn't proud (and tearful) prior to those realization of events, I was thereafter. Truly today is a blessing. I'm proud to say I voted and all went smoothly. In the words of Kirk Franklin's song: Brighter Day. And I don't have to tell you now that Sen. Barack Obama has won President-elect....there is a Praise Party going on in all the heavenly realms and in the streets here too. Who would have thought we would see this day (tears now flowing with joy)? Words cannot convey the mixed emotions of pride, humbleness and thankfulness I feel. The first African American Commander in Chief. God knew. To the First Family: Be Blessed and Be Safe. YES WE CAN!

My heart was so full yesterday, I witnessed all shades of brown showing up and showing out. I looked before me and behind me in line to see a colorful canopy of Obama supporters. People dragging their kids to the lines with them at 5:30am and elderly people with tears in their eyes saying "I never thought". Standing, waiting, sitting in chairs they brought, with breakfast, coffee and books in hand waiting for change they could believe in. I almost expected someone to break out singing a negro spiritual. It is sure enough a historic day whether or not Obama wins. The McCain supporters need to know that we want to see more money in our pockets, we want affordable health insurance, we want support from the higher ups to stop coastal erosion, we don't want our babies, brothers, fathers, mothers, and sisters taking their last breath fighting a war we should not be in, and yes we even want our vice president to be smarter than us. We have showed the nay sayers that Yes We Care, Yes We Could, and Yes We Can. Go ahead Senator (President Elect) Obama do your thing, we got you covered.

I voted early I voted on Thursday and the lines were around the corner! But we held our course and waited about 45 minutes. It wasn't bad. I've waited longer for other things! Plus this was my sons first time voting and he was very excited! He looked so proud that he was able to cast his vote! Then when Obama won! My kids were so excited to see that we as African Americans can achieve anything! You just have to have Faith and Believe that you can achieve anything you set your heart and desire upon. A change has come! This is such a historical momement for us because we are from Chicago! To see someone form the neighborhood we grew up in become the President of the United States is so uplifting! A true man of God is in the House! The White House that is! Praise be to the Lord God Almighty!

My November 4th 2008
I am elated to have had the opportunity to participate in this monumental movement! There has certainly been a shift in the atmosphere. 'But many that are last shall be first, and the first shall be last.' -Matthew 19:30
Before 8am, there were cars parked on both sides of four highway lanes for almost two miles for one terminal. (Unusual for this small, southern black community.) However, the most beautiful thing that I witnessed was the elderly standing on walkers and sitting in line on chairs to participate in the event that they never thought would occur in their lifetime. The ones that registered to vote during a time when they knew that their participation in such a movement would bring racial persecution against them and their families. Yet in the bravery they embodied, they stood in the belief that their press toward the mark of the liberation of the black race would bring forth its triumph. And indeed that belief was reverberated as I witnessed these soldiers press, yet again, and cross four lanes of highway on walkers and canes and in wheelchairs to do their duty once more to walk around the walls of Jericho for the future of 'black folks' in America. One eighty year-old lady refused a chair as she was determined to stand while in line until she was able to cast her vote; another woman just shook her head and wept while she waited in line. And I felt my heart swell as I watched my fathers dare to beam with pride, as they stood a little taller while they waited their turn to cast their ballot.
I attended a election party last night, and I saw my people collectively breathe in an air of hope as the winds changed when the winning numbers came in. It was a feeling and time that I will remember for the rest of my days. The unity among my people on last night held a strength that we've often heard we were incapable of. And in maintaining that unity, I implore my people to grab the torch of our responsibility for one another and continue to support Obama by being more informed, becoming more involved, furthering our education, and awaiting instruction in doing our parts as individuals to make his plans for America a reality.
