He did it!
History was made as Senator Barack Obama won the general election. Share your thoughts on the historic win and what it means for Black America.

If anyone had asked me 18 months ago if Obama or any black man could win the presidency of the mighty USA I would have said no, or at least not in my lifetime. Not possible here, too racist, long history of discrimination, you can only go so far, there are limits and concrete ceilings.....................WE WERE WRONG!
As an African American, words cant describe the emotion but I know that this glorious moment couldn't have happened without a coalition representing the cross section of America. To paraphrase Michelle Obama, "for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country."
My cousin's adorable 6 yr old will NEVER have to wonder how she could be chosen to be a princess in the school play because she's never seen a black princess. The bar has been raised. Dr. King said that he may not get there with us but we as a people will reach the promised land. Obama is not the messiah and he has a daunting task ahead of him, but I never thought I would feel inspired by a politician. I thought that died in that tragic year of 1968 when i was a little girl. He makes me, at MY advanced age, want to be a better person, to work harder and strive for greater and better. The ONLY thing that could have made this fabulous evening better would have been to be able to share it with my grandmother.............for all the houses she had to clean, the floors she scrubbed and meals she cooked so her kids wouldnt have to, so their kids could go to college.............for 400 yrs and untold sorrows and miseries of a people who were told they were nothing more than chattle..................for the essays we wrote in elementary school explaining what we would do as president when we knew that it was an impossible dream, let me introduce............................PRESIDENT ELECT BARACK OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm am so ecstatic about the nomination of our 44th President "ELECT" Barack Obama.
My mother would have been proud to see this day, also. I salute you Presidential "Elect" Obama and
Vice-Presidential "Elect" Biden on the greatest endeavor of any citizen of these United States of America and I pray God keeps his loving arms around you all, this term and always.
Congratulations and God bless you Barack and Michelle! God is truly in control and your integrity, strength, humility and intelligence signifies the values that represent us all. My family and I will continually pray for you and your leadership as you lead us into a new era of unity of these yet-to-be United States. In the words of my pastor, Frederick D. Haynes, III - YOU DID THE DOGGONE THANG!
Two years ago I had this unshakeable feeling that Barack Obama was going to be President. Everyone I talked to up until last week thought I was crazy, but I knew. So I want to say Mr. President, I am so proud of the trail you blazed and the role you allowed all of us to play in helping to make the dream of the first African American president a reality. I look forward to the next four years of assisting you, Vice-President Biden and my fellow Americans helping to restore confidence and hope in our country again.
I just want to thank the most high God for showing this country and the world that we as a people can come together for a common cause. This is the day that Martin Luther King spoke about and we have all witnessed history. Let this be the encouragement that we all need to stay steadfast and press on through whatever faces us. Let us not forget that God is still in control and he knows best. And for the younger generation, know that God is able, and if you believe it, you can achieve it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God Bless America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Obama! We have made History; This is TRULY a BLESSING! And Simply Beautiful! May God be with you and your Family! I am looking forward to the 20th of January 2009!!! I would love for my Father to have lived to witness this very moment...
What an evening this has been! To God be the glory for all He has done. We as Americans should be proud. President-Elect Obama is truly the man for such a time as this. Our country is in such chaos and I believe God has chosen this man for this hour. I pray for him and his family and will continue to do so! He needs all of us as well as those that did not support him. I am still in shock but this historic evening speaks volumes. People (black, white, Latino...) want and need change. This is the time for us to become unified in one spirit and make this country the great place that we know it can be. There are just no words to express what I am feeling. My children, ages 15 and 3 has witnessed history as we all have and will have stories to tell their own children. I am just overwhelmed! Yes, he's African American but he represents the change that America needs. Now, black America let's be the strong, spiritual people that we were born to be! It is not time for the attitude that just because a black man is the President-Elect that it is the time to think that we are a better people because we are not. We still have a lot of work to do in our own homes and communities.
When my grandson was born on Jan 31, 2008, I looked at his bright eyse and said to him 'What Mr. Obama is doing now is for your in the future'. I told him and have told him daily he can one day be president because of Obama has told us yes we can. Thank you Mr. Obama for making the dream I have for my grandson a reality. God Bless America!
I can't believe this happened in my time!! Congratulations to you and your family. I pray that God continues to bless and keep you. 2008 made history!!
GOD did it. Thank God for giving us this man (Obama). We will be praying for you daily and I know that God will lead you. He did not bring you this far too leave you now. Glory to God in the highest. A change has come!!!
